Styx''s best early effort, made all the better by its rarity and obscurity. I special ordered this on CD back in 1988 because I got sick of turning the LP over. Grows on you with early ''70s art-rock ambitions and numerous soft mid-song interludes that work despite all logic and reason indicating otherwise. The production has a muffled, far-off quality that adds to the haunting mood of the album.

Excellent album with a great deal of variety and style. Goesfrom the ominous sounding "The Serpent is Rising" to the bandsown rendition of the "Hallelujah Chorus". Plus you have to love the added bit of humor at the end of "As Bad as This".
