Comments for Suede, Coming Up

I know im going to bring about some wrath, but i think this is the best COMPLETE suede cd yet. Im not saying it has the best songs but overall this is an amazing cd. Richard Oaks not only replaced Butler, but the bombastic shit that ruined Dog Man Star is gone, and the concise glam is back! Trash, She, Filmstar, and Beautiful Ones are classic songs that rival numbers on Suede. Chemistry Between Us is the topper, though. Neil Coddling makes a stunning debut in co-writing the one epic song on the cd. Amazing how a band can be totally written off, only to triumph again. Welcome back, suede!

Coming Up is by far the best Suede album to date, but this does not necessarily mean that the others were crap. This album shows a brilliant medium ground, picking up where their first album lagged behind and cutting off where Dog Man Star went too far. I hasten to had that as far as first albums go, Suede was brilliant and DogMan Star dared to be different, but it was a successful jump as far as musical ingenuiity goes. I can't wait to hear the 4th album.

In one of the greatest comebacks ofall time, Suede survived the loss of Bernard Butler and forged ahead with a collection that in some ways recalls the first album, but is by no means a retread. The focus here is foremost on pop melodies and songcraft, and they are perfect. Each song cries out "single". The lyrics focus on the people of Europe who turn in their days for nights of dancing, drugs and sex. But this is not just a celebration, it is an honest look at the highs and lows.
Richar Oakes proves that he is mor than capable of filling Butler`s shoes. This is deffinately Suede`s best album thus far. It`s poppy and fun, but still contains some of the drama of the first two LPs. Brett Anderson wrote two of the songs, `Lazy` and `By the Sea`, on his own, and newly added keyboardist Neil Codling co-wrote two with Andreson( `Starcrazy` and "the Chemistry Between Us`) Overall a simply brilliant album.
