I, too, love this album. IMHO, Matthew Sweet is a genius. I once had the pleasure of interviewing him for the school paper. The man is an utter genius, and we are lucky that he uses this genius for music and not for more devious things. If you have 100% fun, buy this album next. It's sort of a where-he-has-been type of thing. You need to hear it in order to appreciate 100% Fun.

Best pop-album ever released.

Definitely one of the top rock albums of the last ten years.

Matthew Sweet is one the most underappreciated musicians in the music industry. Girlfriend, although not Sweet's first work, was the beginning of a music genious. His pop songs are catchy and have classic potential. Not often does a musician of this caliber come along, but when he does - he should be valued a lot higher than the way he is now.

This is your brain,... this is drugs. And this is Matthew Sweet's brain on drugs. The only way to appreciate this this guy's talent is to listen to his recorded material. His overdubbing of ALL harmonizing vocals in addition to maintaining the entire string section(with the exception of steel guitar),would be nearly impossible to comprehend live.This album smokes (no pun intended). ...And they said marijuana use constricts ones ability to excel.

GIRLFRIEND is one of the top five albums of the last ten years. It's next to perfect.

This album won Matthew many fans. It will catch you immediately with its musicianship, then it will open your heart when you discover the lyrics. It bears so many repeated listenings. It''ll make you want to SING ALONG to a Sweet voice charged with genuine love.

This is the album that introduced me to Matthew Sweet andstarted me down the road of addiction to Urusei Yatsura series, and apparently"Girlfriend" uses clips from Space Adventurer Cobra, althoughat the time of this writing, I`ve seen neither the latter video noranimation.

None of my friends like this album, but it is one of my favourites, so"your milage may vary." When I first bought it, I was somewhatapathetic to it, but it grew on me quickly.
