Comments for Sylvian, David, Brilliant Trees

This is extremely amazing album in following: David Sylvian managed to assemble here almost unbelievable constellation of artists - where else can you find Holger Czukay, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Mark Isham, Jon Hassel and the rest of former Japan members (save for Karn) playing together! I mean the track "Red guitar" which is the WORST track in entire David Sylvian career. My guess that the number of "stars" is not suffucient to create a "propotional" masterpiece. Otherwise, the album is just GREAT; the title track is IMO Sylvian's BEST. The Caroline BNlue Plate release comes with EP from 85 "Words with the Shaman" which is also amazing. Well, as to weak track... well, it looks like it is DS's tradition of putting one poppish track in each album ("Silver Star" in Gone to Earth and "Let the Happiness in" in "Secrets...").

an inspirational to me in the eighties when i started wearing jackets with long lapelles because he did - if only i had half his style! Nostalgia is perhaps his most atmospheric song. Unfortunately, the new album seems to lack real creativity. Perhaps his best has past. a friend of mine said, whilst listening to Sylvian,"why does he always sound as if he is about to jump of a bridge?"! Well, you either love him or don''t. Jon Rosten - 6/8/99
This is perhaps still the best albums that Sylvian has ever done.An artistic album that combine ambient, jazz and new age, but the result is more than that.
