"New Wave", quite simply, is one of the finest and most underated albums to appear in the past ten years. While the focus of the British press has been on bands such as Suede & Blur, the Auteurs may very well be the best band that the UK has generated since the charlatans. "New Wave" is a tremendous example of inteligent pop music, with lyrics ranging from introspective to expansive. By the time the album ends, the listener is left with only one thought; why haven't more people heard this incredible recording? At a time when Pearl Jam & Nine Inch Nails are polluting the airwaves with noise, and bands like Hootie & the Blowfish are considered to be "deep" (Ha!), the Auteurs appear on the horizon as if they were sent to us via divine intervention.

A great debut album, just beaten for the Mercury Award in Britain by Suede`s debut.
