one of the best smiths albums. "i know it's over" will move you like you've never been moved before. every song on here is beautiful!

I love this album, which is one of the best of all time. However, it is by no means the BEST Smiths' album ever. For me, "Strangeways..." is a better album, more mature and developed...

Smiths, Schmitz. If you want real pain, real angst, look no further than the Heart of Lothian by Marillion. There is perhaps no song in the history of recorded music that approaches the Heart of Lothian's broad majesty. The men of Marillion lent their name to one of the truly immortal works. Shakespeare's Hamlet, Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, and Marillion's Heart of Lothian are all of a piece. Miss at your own risk, Smiths fans!

This is peak of their career material, simply awesome. Let the guitars jangle, and the voice moan. We love you Morrissey.

This album is absolutely brilliant! It changed the life of a whole genaration. In my opinion the best piece of music _ever_ made!

What is this Marillion -crap. Don´t you have any other place to talk to us about some Marillion. The Smiths is everything, Marillion is nothing. I think you´re Smiths fan because you hang around here. I will listen some Marillion. NEVER. At my own risk!

My son picked up this album at a rummage sale for a penny, but since he's more into heavy metal, it really wasn't his cup of tea. I was happy to take it off his hands, since I'm quite fond of 12 inch plastic records and the Smiths. Those beautiful melodies, that gorgeous voice, and the lyrics! Who could ask for more? Highly recommended!!!

My love affair with this album runs over a decade now, indeed "there is a light that never goes out"

I'd recommend this album even if it had "I know it's over" as every track. This song is stunning and endlessly listenable. The other tracks are good as well. There Is a Light That Never Goes Out is extremely good. The end of The Boy with a Thorn in His Side is beautiful. I could gush about this album for awhile but you might as well buy it if you don't have it. You're almost certain to like it.

Maybe the best examples of the Smiths doing what they do best can be found here. There are the bautiful pop tunes like "Cemetry Gates" and "The Boy With The Thorn In His Side", heavy numbers like "The Queen Is Dead" and "Bigmouth Strikes Again", and songs that would tear at the heart of a wax doll, "I Know It''s Over" and "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out". Their greatest? It''s hard to say when talking about a band who constantlty achieved greatness....
