Comments for They Might Be Giants, John Henry

TMBG just keep on getting better and better! More "intelligent" than "Flood" but not as quirky as "Lincoln". Still, a teriffic acomplishment for TMBG. These guys continue to amaze me. They are my one of my favorite bands.

Actually John Henry is my favorite album from They Might Be Giants. After listening to is a couple of times over it will grow on you.. I also think that this peticular album has more 'intellegence' put into it than previous works..

John Henry is the most accomplished album fron TMBG so far. "Subliminal","Dirt-bike" and "The End Of The Tour" must rank as some of their best tunes ever, as the full band really makes a difference. I had the privilege of seeing them live in Glasgow last year and they were the best live act I have seen to date. It is a real shame they get next to no coverage in the UK.

I think that John Henry is by far and away the best musical album of all time! Just brilliant.

John Henry is my favorite TMBG album. This one seems, as John Flansburgh put it, more "organic". It just totally rocks. "Sleeping In the Flowers", "A Self Called Nowhere", and "End Of the Tour" are some of the best songs I've ever heard.

What can I say? It's the best record I have heard in the '94 year. That's all!

John Henry is the absolute best They Might Be Giants album so far, yes I did like the others, but the full band sound makes this album tops in my book. Tony Maimone is one of the best bass players around (and one of the nicest people too, I got a chance to meet him in Febuary!!!) John and John never sounded better (interviewed them in Jan.) My favorite songs off the album include "O Do Not Forsake Me," "Snail Shell," "A Self Called Nowhere," (which I heard on dail a song.) and "Out Of Jail" to name just a few. If you are anything of a They Might Be Gaints fan, I highly suggest this album. and if you are not at TMBG fan, this will make you a believer. Michael Leneski

With each album, TMBG gets better and better artistically. My favorite album is Apollo 18, but this is definitely their best album. It even makes fun of the beatniks and the old Alice Cooper!

A really, really intelligent and entertaining album. I don't know much about the band, but this has to be one of the best albums I've bought in recent history. "Destination Moon" "Snail Shell" "AKA Driver" and "Stomp Box" have to be my faves.

tmbg is my favorite band of all times, but unfortunatly i believe this to be the worst album they've ever made

This is my absolute favorite album of TMBG's. You have to listen to the songs over and over to understand most of the songs, and even then you're missing some. The songs are full of references to historical figures as well as everyday items. The album made me look at things from a different perspective. "Destination Moon", "A Self Called Nowhere", "Why Must I Be Sad?", and "I Should Be Allowed To Think" are my all-time favorite songs. It's a wonderful album!

I believe this album continues the tradition of great albums put out by They Might Be Giants. Through and through every song continues to touch my musical soul. My favorite album by Them is Apollo 18 but I really do love this one with great tracks, "Sleeping in the Flowers", "Destination Moon", "Meet James Ensor", and "No One Knows My Plan", being the best on the album, are truly wonderful. Many of these songs are incredible live as well, with the best live song to hit the '90s, "No One Knows My Plan" and it's infamous congo lines at concerts. The one thing it doens't seem to have since the forming of the full band is the continuous song affect where one song seems to lead into the next like on Apollo 18 or Flood. I would recommend this to any music fan.

Although this album does have a great band backing up TMBG, I would have to say that I extremely dislike this album. The quirkiness that made TMBG one of my favorite groups has seemingly disappeared. Yes, the songs are intelligent. Yes, the album is produced well, but it seems to be lacking in originality and creativity. What happened, Guys?

A handful of good songs, and a buttload of filler. Not high up there in my TMBG collection at all. My fave is "I Should Be Allowed To Think". "AKA Driver" and "Spy" suck big time, "Snail Shell" wasn'' a very great choice for a single, and "O Do Not Forsake Me" is a snooze. "Dirt Bike" is a groove, "Meet James Ensor" is a fun cry back to their earlier days, "Subliminal" is good pop, and on and on. Disappointing.
I`m just listening to it the 2nd time right now. Not as good as Flood but then what is? I like the Louisianna-esque accordion riff on the first cut. Sounds alot more "produced"than their earlier works.
