Comments for They Might Be Giants, Factory Showroom

Didn't have much time during the first post, so I just wanted to add a few more notes. I feel that this album is TMBG's "pop" album, in that the laughs and quirkiness are all there, but the whole thing is perfectly professional. An outstanding culmination of all things that came before. "Metal Detector" is musically fantastic. "Pet Name" waxes funky, and is my fave of the album. "Your Own Worst Enemy" is quiet and paranoid, and warm and elegant. "I Can Hear You" cracks me up every time...the recording at Edison Labs is something only the Giants would have thought of. "How Can I Sing Like A Girl" is sugary sweet pop that the world needs more of. "Exquisite Dead Guy" is kind of bad, but in a good way. In all, a terrific album, and so far the best I've heard from '96. May they soon acheive perfection if they haven't already. I'm sure some fans will be disappointed by this album, but to these ears, it's the best of the bunch.

Spiralling Shape is a truly hypnotizing song. After listening to it several times you become hooked.
The Giants` newest and easily their best. Much better thanthe disappointing John Henry. At first I was kind of disappointed that it only had 13 tracks, but then I realizedthat they had merely cut away the filler which drags even theirbest albums down. Not a bad tune on the whole album, and iteven includes a nifty remake of "James K. Polk", which firstappeared on the Istanbul (Not Constantinople) EP. Don`t missthis one!
