Chinatown is an unjustly overlooked classic from the Thin Lizzy catalogue. Hard driving, yet very focussed, very literate. Phil Lynott''s writing highlights a very inspiring album. Wonderful cover art too.
What can I say about this album? Sublime, grinding, powerful?I can`t say really, except that grabs you by the throat andcut you in half, merciless. From beginning to end full ofmagic, emotion, hotness and coolness, filled with extraordinaireriffs and solos, the record haunted by the voice and bass of PhilLynott and the precise drumming of Brian Downey, completed with the two guitar attack of veteran Lizzy guitarist Scott Gorham and newcomer Snowy White, along with the addition of Darren Whartonon keyboards makes this record a true jewel of the all-timehardrock/metal dominion. Please heart it, buy it, love it, as muchas I do, truly classical!

Chinatown is classic Lizzy, superior to much of their work, outside of the mid-70's masterpieces. Smooth, soft analog production. Excellent songs. Snowy White's slick guitar over shadows Scott Gorham on this record, he steals the show on most tracks. Bad Reputation used to be my favortite Lizzy LP. Now Chinatown's "We Will be Strong" and "Havin' A Good Time" rank among Lizzy's best singles. My heart breaks every time I hear Lynott's voice on the late LPs. He would be just 53 years old today. If he had conquered his addictions and survived, he would have become revered by rock musicians as a living god. But in death he will remain a rock pillar in our hearts, our Roisin Dubh.
